				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Why is it important to vary your workouts? Simply put, if you keep repeating the same workout day in and day out, your body will adapt to that one pattern of movement and your workouts will plateau.</p>
<p>As we all know, in everyday life we ask our bodies to perform a variety of different movements. So why not vary your training program in a manner that will teach your body to handle all the unexpected? A program that incorporates functional movement will keep your body moving in all directions, calling on your muscles and joints to work in unison.</p>
<p>To visualize this, think about having to pick up a heavy box and place it overhead.  You must first squat, then lift the box, balance it and lift it overhead.  Will you be ready to handle these complex movements? If you&#8217;re trained to, you will.  If you&#8217;re not, you&#8217;ll join the millions of others who complain about injuring their backs or knees.</p>
<p>So&#8230; let&#8217;s get with the program! Get off all the machines and start moving the entire body.  Expect the unexpected. Incorporate cardio, weights, pushes, pulls, torques, speed, power, intensity and variation.</p>

<p>Functional Training, in a nutshell, is all about how you train your body to handle real-life situations. Everyday chores require an extremely complex, coordinated set of movements that use multiple joint actions working in an orchestrated sequence. If you simply train each of these parts individually, your body is not prepared to operate as a whole unit.</p>
<p>For example, if you work out on a set of machines at your typical gym, you may be seeing positive results in your endurance, strength and weight control. However, if you need to place your carry-on luggage in the overhead bin of a plane, will your body be ready to squat down, bend over, lift and place the item above your head without fatigue or risk of injury?</p>

<p><strong>Boxing &amp; Conditioning </strong>- Work your way around the circuit of 3 minute drills at your own level.  Stations of the circuit will focus on full body conditioning with an emphasis on boxing skills and techniques.  This program is suitable for all fitness levels.   Participants should bring their own boxing gloves and hand wraps, which may be purchased (or borrowed) at Fitness Advantage.</p>
